Hunter's Club

Hunter's has live music every Friday and Saturday. Friday is usually jazz and Saturday is either rock, jazz, or blues. The new owner has made the food as good as it used to be. Whenever I see a show there, I usually order a hamburger, which come with hand-cut french fries. The hamburgers are fantastic and the grill is open until 2:30 in the morning!
Red Elvises May 10th, 2005
The Red Elvises show is the best concert I've seen all year. Their 2004 show was one of the best I've been to all of last year. (Johnny Hiland at Mojo's was another jaw-droppingly good show.) The One Night Standards opened for the Elvises both times. They are a fantastic local Rockabilly and surf guitar band.
The Red Elvises 5-10-2005. Here are some additional pictures I took:

Man, I can't say enough about The Red Elvises. The band just gets better each time I see them. The band is as my friend Tracey put it 'the bomb'. I went to the show early so I could get a good seat.
I got to meet the Bass Player. He was a great guy as well as a showman. His instrument was huge and expertly played. I met The keyboard player, he also plays the accordion and saxophone. He is an excellent musician.
The guitarist was a Siberian version of Brian Setzer with a little Joe Walsh thrown in the mix. The Drummer was the only American in the band. Adam is such a good drummer he left the crowd begging for more.
The band as a whole is a very tight sophisticated party machine. The boys seemed to plug into the crowd. Each number brings the audience to musical climax. The crowd shouts out requests and the boys tease them but gratefully acknowledge, working them into a frenzy as they rocked their way toward three encores.
The crowd was dancing so hard you could feel the floor move beneath your feet. I strongly recommend the Elvises to anyone who likes to party. Party is exactly what you'll do. I dare you to sit still. I really like this band.

The One Night Standards? Powerful, Immense, and intense are just a few adjectives that describe this band. Scotts guitar playing is massively impressive and very versatile. I really wish the band would play a couple more sets. I really would like to hear more of them. A Few mp3's on a website what a tease c'mon boys I want more! I'm sure I'm not alone.
I really missed Paul's drumming. Chicken Boy rocks. You boys really are smoking (Those smokes will stunt your growth ya know.) Rock On Boys!!!! Thanks for bringing the Red Elvises to the Quad Cities U.S.A.

Red Elvises September 27, 2004
I went to Hunter’s Club to see The One Night Standards. I had been anxiously awaiting this show. I couldn't wait to see them again. My vantage point had its drawbacks, as I couldn't see the band. But what I heard was pure fun and frantic fanaticism. Those smoking sweating guitar gargantuans had done it again. The crowd was listening to and diggin' on what they heard. I found out later that Chicken Boy destroyed his bass guitar during the first song. [He broke a string and smashed it in true rock-star style. The crowd went wild!] A fellow musician, who lent his bass to the guitar smashin' lady-killer known as Chicken Boy, saved the day. [Jeff Loder from Head Held High.]
The One Night Standards are fresh, fun, and talented. I have been involved in the quad city music scene for a long time. I have to admit that I have become somewhat jaded. The One Night Standards are a force to be reckoned with. With a little polish (Yeah right) they could be the most ominous band on the local music scene. In my opinion, The One Night Standards Rock.
How do you describe a life changing experience? The Redelvises did that for me. I couldn't see them but when I heard the sound check I knew something different was going to happen. I was still reeling from the One Night Standards show. I was musically vulnerable.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen. We're the Redelvises "your favorite band". The next ninety minutes were musical ecstasy. I was exposed to Rock and roll as I had never heard it before. It was an eclectic mix of east meets west.
I was instantly taken back to that summer when I went down to Sunset Marina. There I met some Russians who were walking across America. I met so many cool people that I still remember it today. We talked and drank beer. I took a whole vanload of Russians to Hy-Vee for Beer and supplies. This was my first international experience.
Now I hear the Redelvises. The boys got the crowd involved at the beginning. Each tune was tight and exhibited showmanship I hadn't witnessed in a long time. The music was crude and it hit me like a shot of cheap vodka. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard this band before. I have been cruising the website trying to find out a little about these guys that touched me so deeply. My God I feel weird, but I really wanted to get to know these guys
I was completely taken by these Siberian rock and rollers. They were a lot better than the Stray cats. Rock-a-Billy to the max!!!! Russian folk songs, Deep Purple and Johnny cash, with a little Reggae and Elvis thrown in, Wow what an experience!!! With musicians like this and music like this what was this cold war thing all about? I will see them again. I may even send them a copy of this writing. I want to get all their stuff.
A guy who didn't actually see the band wrote this article. I didn't lay eyes on them. I experienced them as I think everyone in the audience did. Next time they are in town, you, dear reader, should experience them too.
